Does EntreCard permit auto-dropper software?

EntreCard is popular advertising exchange that many bloggers are using to increase their traffic even pro bloggers like John Chow, Darren Rowse or Quick Online Tips but most of registered bloggers do not have enough time sitting and dropping cards on different blogs where EntreCard widgets are installed to earn more credits and increase their advertising price. That is why a new blog’s advertising price on EntreCard is much higher than ProBlogger and John Chow even these blogs Alexa ranking is under 1 million. Is this fair?

This question has been raised and discussed among many forums and blogs like John Cow or WebmasterWorld but no official answer announced from EntreCard.

These days, many bloggers have been talking about a software or script that can auto-generate cards on blogs with EntreCard widget installed and bloggers do not need to visit all blogs to do as they have done before.

How does EntreCard comment about this software?

Our attention was drawn to a forum post on another site in which someone claimed to be selling a piece of software that would automatically do card drops for you. Needless to say, this isn’t something we permit and a security system exists to prevent it.

The initial release of the software failed to take account of the security gear and resulted in negative credits. Another release was made, and then offered for sale.

I was not surprised, but I was rather disappointed, that a number of users chose to try and use the software rather than notify us. Those users are being identified now by a “fingerprint” the application left in our web logs.

As a consequence, we had to roll out a contingency plan rather more quickly than we had hoped for, adding an additional set of security to the widget. This is now in place.

There are a few potential side effects, the most important of which from our perspective is that the additional security makes our web servers do more work - and they’re overworked as it is. This may result in the site running slower than usual until we can sort things out properly.

The contingency security is only temporary. We will, unfortunately, have to move to release the next version of the widget as soon as we can. Features such as the upcoming credit market may be delayed while we do this.

I think, EntreCard is right as nothing is FREE at all. So, what should you do to increase your blog traffic? The best way to do so is to run a contest with an amazing prize like what WinningTheWeb and Viking Blogger are doing now.

I hope I can do the same contest in the near future.

Alexa.com is a subsidiary of Amazon.com. It is a website which provides information on traffic levels for websites. The Alexa rank is measured according to the amount of users who’ve visited a website with the Alexa toolbar installed. Alexa toolbar is an application developed by Alexa Internet. Its primary use is to measure website statistics. This toolbar collects as well as gives some valuable information. Once you install it, the Alexa toolbar monitors all your surfing and collects information about what domains you visit. They use this data to rank web sites. The traffic rank they assign to websites is based on 3 months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of other users and is a combined measure of page views and users. Webmasters, advertisers and ad networks use your blog’s Alexa rank as a gauge to determine the worth of a link on your website. If you depend on link or site selling as a form of monetization you’ll definitely want to increase your Alexa rank, because it’ll increase your bargaining power when it comes to ad pricing.
